Thank you Platinum!

The Parry Beach Campground was a great find, tucked in behind the dunes protected from the wind but still close enough to the beach to hear the waves crashing. As planned, we did a combination of down time, van maintenance (Pete replaced the TVan shocker rubbers), more dust and sand removal and looking around the area.

We were in the area top right.

We visited Elephant Rocks and Greens Pool both located in the William Bay National Park, about 14kms from Parry Beach. We continued on to Denmark, a beautiful town surrounded by towering forests and white sandy beaches that meet the Southern Ocean.

Next stop was Walpole and the Valley of the Giants. The Valley of the Giants is home to the red tingle trees that are found only in this area and the Giants Tree Top Walk.  The walk is 600m long and 40m above the ground … there was not much wind and not too many people so there was not much movement of the walk spans … I was very pleased! Red tingles or Eucalyptus jacksonii can grow to a height of 50m, although most don’t reach such grand heights.  The tree top walk and the Ancient Empire Walk that meanders through the forest floor were both very good.

From Parry Beach we headed to Kalgan River, located just outside Albany. The van park is located on the river, our site backed onto the river. Nearby carvanners were catching decent sized black bream. The river is about 140kms long and flows into Oyster Harbour.  A beautiful spot, lots of bird life as we watched various birds dive headlong into the river and return with a fish in its beak, early morning rowers, folk fishing (and catching decent sized black bream) and large pelicans hanging around to get any reject fish!

On Thursday we went to Monty’s Leap for lunch, a farewell gift from Platinum Health.  We can vouch for the fine wine and wonderful food served at Monty’s … was a very wise decision to catch a taxi (who added quite a few kms extra to the fare to the sucker tourists)!

Today we have travelled from Kalgan River to Fitzgerald River National Park, about 200kms and our first day of fairly continuous rain/drizzle.  Lucky for us the rain stopped while we set up camp and we had a walk down to the beach about 400m away.  We are here for three nights before heading to Esperance.

I've been to most of those beautiful places years ago. There was no tree top walk then of course. Still looks the same. You're very lucky campers. Cheers from Steve.
