We headed back out to the Skywalk for the sunset, unfortunately not the greatest sunset we have ever seen but still impressive.

From Kalbarri we started our trip south. We had six days before we need to be in Albany 980 kms south.
Our first stop was the Pink Lake located at Gregory 70kms south of Kalbarri, the pink colour due to the algae in the water. Very impressive with its pink water and contrasting blue water and sky. It was one of the few times we have been able to use the drone.

Next stop was Lake Indoon (315km from Kalbarri), a brackish freshwater lake covering 130 hectares with depth ranging from 1.5 – 5 meters depending on the season. We found a lovely campsite beside the lake, had a stroll and enjoyed the sunset.

However, as the sun began to fade the mozzies arrived on mass, the numbers were incredible, so we bunkered down in the back of the van and listened to the mozzies and array of other insects bash against the canvas. We quickly figured this was a one night only stop over!
Next stop was Lake Stockton (480 km south of Lake Indoon) outside Collie. What we thought would be a quick detour to buy a new remote hard drive turned into a major saga. With no local knowledge we relied on the sat nav to find the store and get us out of Perth. We found the store okay but were impacted by an accident on the freeway which gridlocked the area … as well as being a Friday when everyone seemed to be heading out of the city! Our travel time was another three hours! (instead of arriving at 1.15 we arrived at 5.00pm).
Lake Stockton was once a quarry that has now been converted into a lake mainly used by the locals for recreational activities. Unfortunately, a few of the locals continued their enjoyment of the area until 4 in the morning with a trail bike and a 4wd doing donuts near us, then heading off into the bush amid some screaming and yelling. Another one-night stop!
While we were on Dirk Hartog Island we met a couple who live in Denmark (WA) and they recommended Parry Beach Campground, about 315kms south of Collie … after a chat with the volunteer ranger she showed us a fantastic campsite. We are here for 4 nights; and plan to have a combination of down time and some exploring the area before we head to Albany.
So far:
we have travelled a bit over 14,000kms since leaving home
nothing has come loose, broken or fallen off the TVan or the Prado
the price of diesel is unbelievably cheap - $159.9 near Perth with most around $1.79 p/litre. The dearest was $3.10 on the Great Central Road
Beautiful pink lake and sunset skies. Glad you’ve found some good spots among the ‘one-nighters.’
